Presentation
SDEL brings together four research teams and 69 researchers working across ecology, biochemistry, microbiology, chemistry, and applied biology. The laboratory focuses on valorizing biomass-derived materials to promote sustainable development, leveraging renewable and abundant resources with reduced environmental impact. Research applications span water and soil treatment, health sciences, biotechnology, food, and agriculture. SDEL also develops biodiversity valorization strategies and innovative bio-indicators for environmental quality assessment. Consolidated scientific and technical knowledge supports national research networks and socio-economic services.

Team BioEnv – Presentation

Identification
• Name: BioEnv (Biomaterials and Environment)
• Leader: Prof. El Hadj Elandaloussi
• Domains: Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Materials Science
• Keywords: Natural polymers, porous materials, lignocellulosic waste, chemical functionalization, water treatment, heavy metals, biomaterials, bioactive polymers, antimicrobial activity.
Scientific Program
BioEnv develops advanced biomaterials derived from lignocellulosic waste and biomass, focusing on chemically functionalized polymers with high reactivity and ion-exchange capacity for pollutant removal in aqueous systems. The team also designs bioactive polymeric materials with antimicrobial properties, aiming to replace toxic soil sterilization agents. Its strategy integrates grafting bioactive substrates onto natural polymer matrices to enhance antimicrobial efficiency, reduce residual toxicity, and extend material lifespan.
